The Hatchery Makerspaces are known for physical prototyping — laser cutters, tools, materials, and hands-on making. But innovation today happens just as much on a screen as it does at a workbench. That’s where the Digital Prototyping Studio (DPS) comes in.
Located just behind The Hatchery on the second floor of 245 Beacon St., the Digital Prototyping Studio is Boston College’s hub for digital creation. Whether you’re learning creative software for the first time or looking to advance an existing project, the DPS team is ready to help you develop the skills to bring ideas to life.
DPS team members specialize in UX/UI design, graphic design, and 3D modeling. They provide training and hands-on support in industry-standard software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, Blender, and Fusion 360. This past semester, the team developed original showcase projects — from personal websites to detailed 3D models — highlighting the creative possibilities these tools unlock.
Faculty have already begun integrating DPS into their courses. As one instructor noted, the Studio “expands what students are able to imagine and execute,” providing technical guidance that strengthens both creative expression and academic rigor. By combining structured training with open-ended experimentation, DPS supports coursework across disciplines.
Like other Hatchery trainings, DPS offerings are level-based, allowing participants to build skills progressively. Studio computers remain available for continued practice, allowing students to experiment, prototype, and refine their digital work.
From interface design to 3D modeling, digital tools open new pathways for creativity and innovation. Ready to start making digitally? Learn more at dcc.bc.edu/makerspaces.
